Veronica Kendik

Artist

Taking us beyond the surface, Veronica’s abstract and semi-abstract paintings capture layers of light, layers of memory and layers of time.

Thin veils of transparent colour laid one over another contrast with underlying multiple broken and fragmented layers of richly textured paint which Veronica excavates down into, finally making and remaking the various layers into a newly created whole. The work unfolds over time as beauty, incredible depth and coherence begin to emerge from the early experimental and unrestrained layers of paint which are then refined into the finished pieces.

Veronica’s exploration of paint as a medium and its at times almost sculptural, quality is a journey of constant experimentation and discovery. Veronica’s joyful and ever-renewing engagement with the world around her is ours to share in her finished work.

Veronica is inspired by the beautiful English Downlands, the rugged Cornish coast and the landscapes of southern Europe. She is fascinated by the ever-changing interplay between sky, land and water, drawing on the memories of past journeys and distilling them into images which evoke an elemental sense of the ‘spirit of place’.

Veronica has a BA in Fine Art and is a resident artist at The Base, Greenham. Her work is held in various private collections and has been exhibited widely.
